There’s something special about showcasing wines from right here in British Columbia—especially when the story behind the bottle is just as meaningful as what’s inside it. For our very first Monthly Wine Feature this June, we’re proud to highlight one of the Okanagan Valley’s most iconic producers: Burrowing Owl Estate Winery.

Nestled just south of Oliver in the heart of the South Okanagan, Burrowing Owl has been a cornerstone of BC’s wine industry since it was founded in 1993. What started as a vision to revive a neglected vineyard has grown into one of the province’s most respected wineries, helping put Canadian wines on the global map.

The winery takes its name from the endangered burrowing owl native to the region—an intentional choice that reflects a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. In fact, Burrowing Owl has long supported conservation efforts, weaving sustainability and respect for the land into everything they do. (Wikipedia)

From their hillside, gravity-flow winery to their estate-grown philosophy, every bottle is a reflection of the Okanagan’s unique terroir—sun-drenched days, cool desert nights, and mineral-rich soils that produce bold, expressive wines. Their vineyards span some of the most sought-after growing regions in the valley, allowing them to craft wines with both power and elegance. (Tanners Wines Ltd)

But what makes this feature even more meaningful to us is community. Throughout the month of June, $1 from every bottle sold of our featured Burrowing Owl wines will be donated to support the local Friendship Centre—helping strengthen programs and opportunities for Indigenous youth and families in our region.

This is what we’re about: great wine, local stories, and giving back.

June Feature Wines

2022 Cabernet Franc

A standout red from Burrowing Owl, the 2022 Cabernet Franc is a beautifully balanced and expressive wine. On the nose, you’ll find layered aromas of dried violets, red plum, currant, and subtle spice. The palate is vibrant and structured, with fresh berry notes, earthy undertones, and hints of clove, paprika, and graphite.

Medium-bodied with refined tannins and bright acidity, this is a wine that delivers both depth and drinkability. It pairs exceptionally well with roasted meats, game, or rich vegetarian dishes like eggplant parmigiana.

2020 Pinot Gris

On the white side, Burrowing Owl’s Pinot Gris continues to be one of the most recognized and enjoyed styles in BC. Crafted in a fresh yet textured style, it offers inviting notes of orchard fruit—pear, apple, and subtle citrus—alongside a clean, crisp finish.

This is a versatile, easy-drinking wine that still carries complexity, making it perfect for everything from seafood and salads to casual patio evenings. It’s a true reflection of the Okanagan’s ability to produce vibrant, food-friendly whites.
